Lion Dance Ceremony
The Traditional Chinese Lion Dance Ceremony will once again be performed by the Shaolin Martial Artist from the Lohan School of Shaolin, located at; 3850 Schiff Dr, Las Vegas, NV 89103. Lohan has been performing their signature Lion Dance Ceremonies in Las Vegas, at homes, businesses, office complex, Casinos and Resorts for over 25 years.
Chinese Lion Dances are performed to drive out any and all things Evil in the metaphysical world, that is anything that the normal eye could not see. The ceremony is usually performed at houses, places of worship, businesses, farms, offices, any place where a spirit or ghost inhabits. It is believed that the loud noises, from the drum beats, gongs, cymbals ringing, when played together, all drive away the evil, since it cannot withstand loud noises. Consider The Lion Dance-Spring Cleaning for the Soul.
Chinese New Year-Lunar New Year
In 2020, Chinese New year begins on the 25th day of January. The reason why this New Year moves around year after year and why it falls on the 25th this year is that on January 25, 2020 a new moon will begin. Also known as the Lunar New Year, Chinese New Year is based on Astrology, the moons orbit around the earth, Not the Georgian Calendar which is based on the earth’s orbit around the Sun. Once these orbits complete its cycle a new Lunar New Year begins, hence why it is different from Year to Year.
Officially, the celebration of Chinese New Year started in 1766BC during the Shang Dynasty, the practice has roots dating as far back as 2300BC having small celebrations throughout rural China. Chinese New Year was observed in China as a result of religious practices. Buddhist monks would refrain from eating anything based on taking of another animal life during the entire New Year celebration. Religious observance and becoming VEGAN was the root cause of the celebration of the Lunar New Year and thus Chinese New Year. In order to become a pure and good being, both physical and mentally, Buddhist monks would refrain from eating any meats, seafood, insects, anything that sourced from another animal or being, including eggs from chicken, fish etc. Their diet during this 15 day observance would only consist of vegetable sourced dishes, from renewable resources. It is believed that observing the 15 day vegan diet along with daily meditation, cleanses the body and soul of mental and physical toxins. Once a person goes through this cleansing the body and soul is now fresh and anew, ready for the New Year, much like going to the dentist for a cleaning, or giving your car a complete detail, after its all said and done it comes out looking like new, ready for another year of the world.
Chinese New Year traditionally is celebrated for 15 days, concluding with the beginning of the Lantern Festival. The Lantern, which is usually red, is hung from the ceiling, which symbolizes the lighting of the heavens, in turn discharging all evil, since evil exists in darkness. After 15 days, the Spring festival begins, which marks the beginning of the new harvest, where farmers start planting new seeds in the preparation of warmer climate, and thus Summer in the Northern Hemisphere.
In addition to the observance, Chinese New Year is also a time where families are reunited. Just like Thanksgiving and Christmas is to the Western world, in Asia most Chinese businesses start closing on the Eve of Chinese New Year, and are usually closed for at least a week. This is a time when all siblings return the family’s home for the reunion and the feast. In a very religious family, the preparation would start early in the morning, where the food would be prepared and setup on the table by an alter before noon. Once everything is prepared and presented to the family's religious shrine, incense would be lighted and a prayer is offered for the New Year. After at least an hour, the food would then be taken back to the family table where the entire family would come together and feast.
