Sustainable seafood has been on the rise since 2020, with home cooking taking most of the increase. The 2020-2025 Dietary Guidelines for Americans emphasizes diners to increase their seafood consumption for people of every age with the emphasis on pregnant women. This is due to seafood’s many health benefits, including high quality protein, rich in essential nutrients, including Omega-3 fatty acids, vitamin D, iodine along with many other vitamins and minerals.
Health Benefits of Eating Seafood
According to the Washington State department of health; Consuming seafood 1-2 times a week could lower the risk of heart attacks, strokes, and death from heart disease by up to 15%, while the omega acid in fatty fish maintains heart health, while the Omega-3 in seafood helps support proper brain functions and may help reduce the onset of cognitive decline, depression, Alzheimer’s and ADHD disease. Other health benefits of regular seafood meals include, the reduced risk of age-related macular degeneration, improving eye health, and maintaining good eyesight. The anti-inflammatory effects of the Omega-3s can help ease joint stiffness and pain, helping to improve symptoms for those with Arthritis. Omega-3s are also crucial for the development of an infants brain and nervous systems during pregnancy, according to Washington State, while the nutrients in seafood helps to preserve skin moisture, protect against Ultra-violet rays from the sun, promotes proper hair growth and shine. Having a high diet in seafood would probably explain why the Thais can be exposed to the sun for a longer period of time compared to their Northern counterparts and the only consequence is just a darker skin, whereas a person with origins from the northern hemisphere with white skin can only be exposed to the sun for only a few minutes before having to seek shade or put on proper sun-blocking clothing.
Seafood has long been a staple commodity in Thailand, with its geographical location in Southeast Asia bordering the Andaman Sea and the gulf of Thailand, making the country, today, one of the worlds major producers and exporters of sustainable seafood, with Shrimp being the most harvested, farmed and exported seafood.

The Thais have come a long way in making seafood an edible culinary art. The Thai Spicy Seafood salad or “Yum Talay” ยำทะเล has been perfected in Thailand over the years, mainly served along seaside eateries as well as in bars and nightclubs in the metropolitan area of Bangkok. The taste of Yum Talay is analogous to the Papaya Salad, which is spicy, sweet, salty, a little sour, with its twin being the Spicy Shrimp Salad. Diners are complementing a glass of Singha beer, which pairs with the spice contained in the roasted chili paste in soya bean oil very well. While white Wine is considered the best pairing for seafood dishes, a glass of cold Beer is considered the best pairing for Spicy rich foods, and it is also the number one choice for Thais and foreigners who dine in Thailand. In addition to the Shrimp Salad, diners are also choosing the Thai Spicy Calamari-Squid Salad as well. From the seas of the Taiwan straits our Calamari-Squid tubes are openly sliced in a tile-square pattern in order to allow the ingredients to captivate and enhance the taste of the squid.

All three salads are cooked with the nutritious lemon grass, along with the Thai Chili Paste which contains the bioactive compounds, carotenoids, capsaicinoids, and flavonoids, which are excellent antioxidants for the body. The chef then mixes in fresh squeezed lime juice, Fish sauce, fresh grounded Thai Chili-Peppers, all are served on a bed of Iceberg lettuce, cooked with red onions, diced carrots, and finishing off with cilantros.
